The Blackbird

The Blackbird on North Road welcomes dogs in the bar area and the beer garden (on a lead), so you can enjoy a pint at the historic castle-site pub with the dog alongside.

The Hawk

The Hawk at Higham Dykes goes further than most: well-behaved dogs are welcome in its designated bar area (inside and out) with a water bowl on hand, there's a dog-friendly garden, and the countryside gastropub even offers a canine menu and dog-friendly rooms. The pick for a proper day out with the dog.

Best for: A dedicated dog-friendly bar, a canine menu and dog-friendly rooms.

Station House on Bell Villas and The Diamond Inn on Main Street are both listed as dog-friendly and make a good stop after a walk, though policies can be applied at the venue's discretion, so it's worth calling ahead if you're bringing a larger dog.

The best dog walks

For walks, Ponteland is spoilt. Ponteland Park and its River Pont paths are a firm favourite with local dog walkers, and the flat, well-surfaced old Darras Hall railway line makes an easy, dog-friendly circular from the village centre. When your dog needs sprucing up, Paws of Ponteland is a dog-grooming studio on Main Street offering nail and dew-claw clipping, de-shedding, de-matting and full grooms, handy and right in the village.

Best for: Village-centre dog grooming, clipping, de-shedding and full grooms.
