Supermarkets in Ponteland: Where to Do Your Food Shop

Waitrose & Partners on Main Street is the largest supermarket in the village and the retail anchor of Ponteland's town-centre redevelopment, sitting right alongside the leisure centre and library. There is a free car park, and it is an easy walk for much of the village.

Sainsbury's

Just off Main Street at Bell Villas, Sainsbury's is Ponteland's other big-shop option, with a large free car park and long opening hours seven days a week. It offers a full grocery range, fresh produce, an in-store bakery and the Taste the Difference and own-label lines. Having two full-size supermarkets so close together gives villagers a genuine choice, and a reason to compare rather than default to one.

Co-op Food, Darras Hall

Over on Broadway, the Co-op Food store serves the Darras Hall side of Ponteland as its main neighbourhood convenience shop. It stocks daily essentials, fresh and chilled food, bakery items and food-to-go, and is open from early until late every day. As a community retailer, its membership scheme returns a share of spending to local causes, tying it into village life beyond the shopping.

Best for: Best for: a handy top-up shop on the Darras Hall side, without a trip to Main Street.

Bakery and food-to-go

For a quick bite rather than a shop, Greggs on Main Street covers the grab-and-go end, with sausage rolls, bakes, sandwiches and coffee. It sits handily among the Main Street shops, making it easy to combine with a supermarket run.

Getting there
