The Best Restaurants in Ponteland

From Michelin-recognised Indian food to historic pubs and family Italians, Ponteland and Darras Hall have a restaurant scene well beyond their size. Here are the places worth booking.

For a town its size, Ponteland eats extremely well. Between Main Street, Bell Villas and the Broadway parade in Darras Hall you will find everything from a Michelin-listed Indian to historic pubs and family-run Italians. Here are the places we would book.

For a special occasion

Haveli on Broadway is Ponteland's most decorated restaurant — an Indian kitchen that has held Michelin Guide recognition and a Bib Gourmand, serving refined regional cooking a cut above the usual curry house. It is the obvious choice when you want to impress.

The pubs

The Blackbird on North Road is a Ponteland institution, built into the site of the town's medieval castle and known for premium steaks, British classics and generous Sunday roasts, with a garden and a weekly quiz. On Main Street, The Diamond Inn is a handsomely refurbished former 18th-century coaching inn pouring real ales alongside freshly prepared food, with en-suite rooms if you are staying over.

Italian and Mediterranean

Ponteland has two long-standing family Italians. Rialto Ristorante on Main Street covers pizza, pasta, steaks and seafood with a function room for events, while Fratelli on Bell Villas brings an Italian and Sardinian menu with dine-in and takeaway. For something broader, Mambo's on Brewery Lane roams the Mediterranean from Spain to Greece.

Bar and bistro

Elkwater Bar & Bistro in Darras Hall is part bistro, part bar and part lifestyle store, serving French and Canadian-inspired food from breakfast through to evening cocktails and live music. In the town centre, Station House Bar & Kitchen occupies the converted former police station on Bell Villas, with small plates, craft beer and a terrace.

For coffee and daytime

If you are after brunch or a proper coffee rather than dinner, Main Street has you covered — see our Ponteland high street guide for the town's cafés and bakeries.

Booking tips

Ponteland's best tables — especially Haveli and the Blackbird at weekends — get busy, so book ahead for Friday and Saturday nights and for Sunday lunch. Most venues take reservations directly through their own websites, linked from each listing in our directory.
