About Cramlington Register Office
Cramlington Register Office, at The Hub on Forum Way, is a Northumberland County Council register office for both births and deaths, and is the nearest office to Ponteland at which a death occurring in Northumberland can be registered (Morpeth's County Hall office is a short distance further). Registration is by appointment, so you need to telephone the registration service on 0345 600 6400 to book; a death should normally be registered within five days unless it has been referred to the coroner.
One important point for Ponteland: a death is registered in the district where the person died. If a Ponteland resident dies in a Newcastle hospital, such as the Freeman or the RVI, the death is registered at Newcastle Register Office in the city centre rather than in Northumberland. At the appointment the registrar issues the death certificate (certified copies £12.50 each — ask for several) and provides a Tell Us Once reference to notify government departments in one step.
