Where to Park in Ponteland

Here's a rare and welcome thing: parking in Ponteland is free. Northumberland County Council runs several public car parks in the village, all without charge, so you don't need coins or an app, just an eye on the time-limit signs. Here's where to leave the car.

The car parks (all free)

• Merton Way North, an all-day car park right by the village shops.
• Merton Way South, a mix of all-day long-stay spaces and a 3-hour short-stay bay (the short-stay bay needs a parking disc displayed).
• Thornhill Road, off Merton Road, again with all-day long-stay spaces plus a 3-hour short-stay disc bay.
• Ponteland Leisure Centre car park on Callerton Lane, all-day and free, handy for the pool, gym, library and the school campus.

How the time limits work

The all-day bays let you stay up to 24 hours (the council asks that the car is then moved off for a few hours before returning). The short-stay bays are capped at 3 hours and need a parking disc showing your arrival time displayed in the windscreen, the standard clock-style disc you can pick up locally.

On-street parking

There's some on-street parking on Main Street and, in Darras Hall, along Broadway, but it's limited and subject to local waiting restrictions, so the main car parks by the shops and the leisure centre are usually the easier bet.
