Hospice Care Provider Praised as Ponteland Shop Reopens
Tynedale Hospice at Home's Ponteland shop on Merton Road has reopened after a major refurbishment, as the charity's end-of-life care service is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission.
A charity that provides end-of-life care to people in their own homes has been praised for its "kindness, empathy and compassion" by independent inspectors.
Tynedale Hospice at Home, whose shop on Merton Road in Ponteland reopened in May after a major refurbishment and extension, was rated Good overall — and in each of the five categories of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led — following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The report described the service as exceptional at treating people with kindness and dignity, and highlighted feedback from bereaved families, including one relative who rated the care they received the best ever.
Income generated through the charity's retail shops, including the Ponteland branch, supports its hospice-at-home care: end-of-life nursing in the home, patient transport, pre- and post-bereavement services, dementia support and holistic support for local families.
