Swimming in Ponteland: Pools and Lessons

Ponteland Leisure Centre

The heart of swimming in the village is the Ponteland Leisure Centre on Callerton Lane, part of the civic hub shared with the schools and library. The centre has two pools: a main lane pool for general and lane swimming, and a smaller, warm learner pool that is all one level, which is ideal for young children and beginners.

Alongside the pool the centre has a gym, fitness studios and a sports hall, so it is easy to build swimming into a wider workout or a family visit.

Swimming lessons

The leisure centre runs swimming lessons following the national Learn to Swim programme, taking children from their first splashes through to confident swimming. Places are popular, so it is worth enquiring early and joining any waiting list. Adult lessons and improver sessions are typically available too.

Public and family swimming

As well as lessons, the centre offers timetabled public swimming, lane sessions and family swims. The warm learner pool makes it a good choice for families with toddlers, while the main pool suits more serious swimmers. Check the current timetable before you go, as sessions vary through the week.

A little further afield

If you want more choice, there are further pools a short drive away across Northumberland and Newcastle, including larger centres with leisure water and flumes for a bigger family day out. But for regular swimming and lessons close to home, the Ponteland Leisure Centre is hard to beat.
