Halloween in Ponteland

Ponteland has some genuinely good family Halloween options close to home, with a full programme of events at Dobbies and a zoo day out just up the road. Here is what is on. Dates change every year, so always check each venue for this year's programme and to book.

Dobbies at Ponteland

Dobbies Garden Centre at Ponteland runs a full autumn and Halloween programme aimed at younger children, including a "Little Scare-lings" Halloween tea party with potion making, glow slime and a trick-or-treat bag, plus a dog-friendly "Pup-kin Patch" for four-legged family members. Events are bookable through the Dobbies website, and they book up, so plan ahead.

Kirkley Hall zoo

Just north of the village, Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens is open through the October half-term holidays, making it an easy family day out among more than 200 species, from lemurs to meerkats. It is a general half-term visit rather than a specifically Halloween-themed event, but a reliable option if the weather holds.

Pick your own pumpkins

There is no pumpkin patch in Ponteland itself, but several are within a short drive, including Whitehouse Farm near Morpeth and Brocksbushes in the Tyne Valley. We have rounded them all up in our guide to pumpkin picking near Newcastle.
