Post Office to Close in Darras Hall as Broadway Store Shuts

Residents in Darras Hall have reacted with dismay to the loss of the Post Office on Broadway, following the closure of the Morrisons Daily convenience store that housed it.

The store was one of a number of former McColl's branches — acquired by Morrisons in 2022 — being closed as part of a nationwide restructure of the chain's convenience business. The Post Office counter closed along with the shop.

Local residents voiced their frustration on social media, with several highlighting how much older people on the estate valued having a branch within walking distance rather than a car journey away.

Post Office services in Ponteland are still available at the branch at 36 Merton Way, NE20 9PS, and the Post Office has said it remains committed to restoring provision in Darras Hall where possible, with the opportunity to run a new branch in the area now being advertised. A consultation on the change is open via the Post Office's national consultation hub.
